His Style and Approach to Counseling

How many of us find it safe to talk about our true selves?  We hide in many ways.  Without honesty there is little or no growth.  Counseling can be that place to share honestly what is bothering us.  An atmosphere of trust and confidentiality is essential for open sharing to occur.  Setting judgment aside and discovering why we are doing what we are doing can be helpful.  There are reasons why we do what we do.  Feel free to look around the website and check out the articles section and links.   Check out Erik's Blog.   If you are ready to give us a call, you can call me at 425-334-8916 or email me or send a secure confidential contact form.  I have an office in Lake Stevens.  I have been helping individuals, marriages, families and children since 1989 serving the cities of Everett, Lynnwood, Snohomish, Marysville, Clearview, Mt. Vernon, Mukilteo, Edmonds and Seattle.  I am both state and nationally certified as a counselor.  For more information about my credentials and experience click here.

His Experience

Erik has worked has over 30 years as a therapist with addiction recovery, anxiety issues and depression.  He did a predoctoral program in clinical / community psychology where he work with the chronically mentally ill for about 4 years.  He also worked at Northshore Youth and Family services learning about family systems.  Erik had an interest in what made therapists effective or not, i.e. "what made the difference" whether people got benefit or not.  He studied NeuroLinguistic Programming at the Certified and Master Practitioner levels.  He then taught a 7 month training course in NLP and certified practioners that ranged from therapist, pastoral counselor, business professionals and massage therapists.

Erik was asked to be an expert witness testifying on the effects of divorce and family breakup on children.  Over 4 years he had the opportunity to meet with world experts and relay the information gathered and presented it to Skagit County Court.  His testimony is on the appelate court law books for Washington state.  He then became a Guardian ad Litem for Snohomish County and worked for a short time as a GAL.

Erik has had addiction and compulsivity touch his own life and found healing and recovery from therapy and working the 12 steps of AA.  He studied and practices these steps and shares them with other who want recovery.  He finds good success rates from alcoholism, sexual addiction, compulsive gambling, drug addiction, compulsive overeating and compulsive spending when people practice the principles.

Erik has had a interest in the brain and how it affects emotion, addiction, anxiety and a number of issues.  He studied neurofeedack and started offering this in 2011.  Since then his practice has been pretty busy offering neurofeedback for addiction recovery, anxiety (panic, chronic and OCD), depression, attention deficit disorder (ADHD), autisum (ASD), brain injury (concussion), migraine headaches and other issues.
